Mustangs wrap up Spartans in 2010 season opener

The Madison Mustangs faced off against the Wauwatosa Spartans to kick off the 2010 season. The Mustangs new defense, same old result! The Mustangs D picked off Tosa QB Tony Henner 4 times and held the Tosa offense down on their end of the field most of the night. Rookie SS David Pilla had 2 INT’s in the end zone stabbing off Tosa scoring attempts. The stingy D also set up the Mustangs offense in short field situations and multiple scoring opportunities.

Both teams were a little rusty since they last met in Ironbowl XIII last season. The Mustangs missed multiple scoring opportunities, turned the ball over twice, missed a FG, and had 11 penalties! However, with all that said they still managed to put up 32 points and held Tosa scoreless until midway through the 4th quarter.

The Mustangs were lead on D by Pilla’s 2 INT’s and DB Jimmy Gordon’s 7 tackles. The Mustangs O was lead by QB David Pietrowiak’s 2 TD, highlighted by a 24 yard strike to WR Zak Gordon and a 12 yard scramble after getting his helmet torn off. The Spartans were highlighted by WR Raymon Porchia’s 8 receptions for 103 yards and a TD.

This week the Madison Mustangs take on Ironbowl XIV hopeful’s Burlington Blue Devils in Middleton, kick off at 7:00 pm. You can catch more info about the Madison Mustangs at madisonmustangsfootball.com.
