Mustangs down Blue Devils in Convincing Fashion

Picked by several pundits as the class of the AFC, the Burlington Blue Devils rolled into Middleton last Saturday with high hopes for the 2010 season. The Devils won their season opener against the Shorewood Monarchs 27-0 on opening weekend, while the Mustangs were still riding high on the strength of their convincing victory over the Wauwatosa Spartans last week.
As usual, the Mustangs Defense, which has come to be known as the Hit Squad, was on a mission. The Blue Devils much heralded Division I quarterback, Warren Arnold from Valparaiso, looked flummoxed in the face of the pressure he faced all day long. The Blue Devils offense was never able to get clicking, turning the ball over 7 times to the Mustangs. Madison capitalized on the short field the entire first half, and by the time the starters came off the field in the late third quarter, Madison held a 30-6 lead.
The Mustangs scored once more in the fourth quarter before a late TD by the Blue Devils with 1:34 remaining. Madison walked away with the win and the 2-0 season record. Starting QB David Pietrowiak threw three touchdowns on the day, two to receiver Zak Gordon.
Madison will be on the road next week to take on the Fond du Lac Crusaders (0-2) in Fond du Lac. Kick off will be 7PM.
